Albert F. Brandel of Melville, New York, USA, was elected president of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 91st International Convention, held in Bangkok, Thailand, June 23-27, 2008. He is a retired police detective. For many years he investigated child abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, domestic violence involving children and missing children. A member of the West Hempstead Lions Club since 1975 and an associate member of the Melville Lions Club, Past International President Brandel has held many offices in the association, including club president, district governor and international director. He has also served as a presenter and panelist at USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forums. He worked with the Long Island Lions Eye Bank as a transporter and has been the Lions Representative to UNICEF in New York for 10 years. He helped coordinate Lions relief efforts at the World Trade Center following September 11, 2001. In recognition of his contributions, he has received numerous awards, including the 100% Club President Award, the 100% District Governor Award, 15 International President's Awards and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest award the association grants to its members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. In addition to his Lions activities, he has served as a Little League volunteer and as a Eucharistic minister. He is a former member of the board of directors of the United Nations Association of the USA. Past International President Brandel's wife, Dr. Maureen Murphy, an anesthesiologist and a Lion, practices at a community hospital. |

Sid Scruggs, of Vass, North Carolina, USA, was elected as first vice president of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 92nd International Convention, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA July 6-10, 2009. Vice President Scruggs is a retired commercial airline pilot. A member of the Vass Lions Club, he has held many offices within the association, including club president, multiple district extension chairperson and district governor. In addition Vice President Scruggs has been a presenter at the USA/Canada and Europa Leadership forums and an instructor for the Lions Clubs International Leadership Institute and the District Governors-elect School. He is actively involved with dog guides for the blind. In recognition of his service to the association, Vice President Scruggs has received four Lion of the Year awards, the 100% Club President Award, eight New Club Extension Awards, the Governor of Excellence Award, the Key of Nations Award, an International President’s Leadership Award, eight International President’s Awards and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor the association gives to its members. He is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. In addition to his Lions activities, Vice President Scruggs is chairperson of the board of directors of the Governor Morehead School, a member of the board of the Raleigh Lions Clinic For the Blind, Inc., and a life member of the American Airlines Grey Eagles Association and the Naval Academy Alumni Association. He was presented with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest award given by the State of North Carolina. He has also received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from World University. Vice President Scruggs and his wife, Judy, also a Lion and a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, have four children and 15 grandchildren |

Wing-Kun Tam, of Hong Kong, China, was elected as second vice president of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 92nd International Convention, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA July 6-10, 2009. Vice President Tam is the chairperson of an air transportation company. A member of the Mt. Cameron Lions Club since 1981, Vice President Tam has held many offices within the association, including club president, zone chair, region chair, district governor, 1992 International Convention Host and Bidding chair, Campaign Sight First multinational secretary coordinator and recording secretary, District Governor-elect Seminar group leader, SightFirst China Action executive chair, International Convention Bidding Committee executive chair, LCIF Executive Committee member, LCIF Public Relations Committee member and five-time board appointee. In recognition of his service to the association Vice President Tam has received numerous awards, including the 100% District Governor Award, two International President’s Certificates of Appreciation, 13 International President’s Awards, the International Lion of the Year Award (2003) and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor bestowed upon association members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. In addition to his Lion activities, Vice President Tam is active in numerous professional and community organizations, including serving as chairperson of the Task Force on Psychotropic Substance Abuse, the Endangered Species Advisory Committee and the Dragon Foundation Fund Raising Panel; member of the Promotion of Civic Education Committee, the Action Committee Against Narcotics, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel, Friends of the Chest Executive Committee, Hong Kong; and Hong Kong Convention Ambassador (since 1995). In the past, he was member and chair of numerous boards and committees, as well as a Hong Kong District Affairs advisor. Vice President Tam is the recipient of the Her Majesty The Queen’s Badge of Honor, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, and of the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR Government. He is a non-official Justice of the Peace in HKSAR. Vice President Tam has three children. |
